@Google AI starts to to make its own language amongst iteself…

Often times we hear about AI. We often also imagine the Terminator movies or have people who say both yay and boo to the idea of AI in computers. The truth is we don’t know what AI is and we have no idea of how it will look or even work in our lives.

Enter @Google AI amongst many others. @Google created an AI Translation team of computers that were given the task of translating between languages and each other. The results were exactly as expected until they discovered something that they could not explain. The computers started creating their own more efficient language and communicating with each other in this new language. This new language and communication is a mystery to the team.

So lets go back to the start and ask again are we interested in AI? The question that should be asked now appears to have changed because we can now see the reality of the AI at work. But do we want these computers making decision and communicating with each other on their own? Now this changes things doesn’t it?

#SPSDBN my first time speaking….

#SPSDBN Today was the first time I have spoken at this event and the people seemed to like the topic and enjoyed our time together.

My topic was about creating reports and dashboards without spending more money. The main thread in the message however was more about gaining control over your company data to bring order in a world of Excel copy paste.

After my presentation I had hidden away some gift vouchers under selected chairs and asked everyone to check if they were a winner. These four were the winners, well done.

#SPSDBN @alistairpugin @bradgcoza

Thanks for this great event and the opportunity to present.

In the midst of #feesmustfall violence one student is being bold to share love rather than fear, hate and racism…

This guy stands alone with a blindfold on to offer hugs to students just to show that love really does not know colour or agendas. He only wanted to share a hug with whoever wanted to. the reactions and responses are amazing. I want to give a huge shout out to the boldness and to the courage this guy has showed and hope that this video break the internet. Its time to stop giving fear a platform on social media and start sharing about all those millions of people in the world who do these little things that actually show compassion. We need to start sharing more of these stories and these people in social media because they are the ones who are making a change in our daily lives with love and compassion. Well done.

Placed 2nd in our first Ballroom Dance Competition

Today Tracey and I stepped (pun intended) into a new world of ballroom dance competition. We entered in the social dance division, which is not competitive. However our group was combined with the Beginners competitive division nd we ended up being judged on this level from our first try. We found this out the day before the competition which meant we had to change the fox trot to a quick step and the swing to a jive literally overnight.

We just enjoyed the time together as a husband and wife doing some dancing together.

After all the excitement and some butterflies lining up, we some how managed to place second in the ballroom division (Waltz and Quick Step) and second in the latin division (Cha Cha and Jive).

Wow, what a fun time and such a diverse array of people.

@Panasonic unveils a bendable battery….

This news alert may seem a but premature since it is only in R&D stage, however it does open the door to opportunity.
Maybe its just me but in production today there are very few advances to containing energy. So I think it is high time the energy storage market got a shake up to innovate the way energy is stored.

@Google Pixel. Is it worth it?

Google have for a long time now dominated the Mobile space and they have now chosen to enter the market with their own handset. However is it too little to late or is it to try and just capitalize on the Android bandwagon? This phone certainly is a real eye opener and has some serious hardware. The camera is incredible if it can live up to its reputation. the challenge is will the consumer market be prepared to fork over so much for another Android phone or is this a must have because its a Google phone purchase?

Whatever you may ask or what you opinion is, Google have firmly planted themselves into that volatile space known as mobile handsets and they have done it with some style. I love the style of the phone and the way it has been put together, but the camera certainly could be one of the best points on this device, but it still needs to be tested.

Here is a hands on review of the mobile phone.

Durban shelters are ripping off homeless people…

We blog and social media all day long and stress about the challenges we face with mobile connections, and yet there are people in every city that face one simple challenge, “Have I got enough to sleep in a bed?”. In Durban South Africa there are many shelters on offer and yet these shelters are actually ripping these homeless people off. Read this article and try and think about what living conditions these people face every day and ask yourself if you were placed in that position, would you like to know that you were a person who helped make a better place for your fellow man to at least stay for the night.
http://ift.tt/2cZCktf

Here’s an idea, imagine if all the super rich leaders in our city had to submit 1% of all their monthly earnings to making these places better to live in for the sake of the people?
Imagine if there was a program (like the jury duty in America) that would bring educated people to train classes for these homeless people so that they can be educated and help them become productive people in our community and city?
Have we stopped caring for our fellow man?

Jesus said, “love your neighbor as you love yourself”. Find one of these shelters and make sure they are genuine and see if you can support or help them even if it just with your time.

Siyabonga Cwele has unveiled a radical shake-up in ICT sector… #datamustfall

It may not mean a lot to most people, but this white paper is preparing the digital government for the ICT sector. Many role players are going to be affected. I just hope and pray that this means #datamustfall as well as better pricing for teleco services and mobile services.

Is your phone or tablet battery using child labor???

How often do we unwrap those awesome new gadgets and how much do they impact our lives, but we never stop to think at what cost?
Manufacturers are increasingly reducing costs and yet the price to buy these new phones keeps going up. However is we go right back to basics how do these manufacturers get the products to make their innovative gadgets and still keep the prices down? How much margin is really being added on to these companies and how much of that gets back to the men, women and children who are forced to get the raw materials, because that is their only form of earning an income?

But who cares right, we have our gadgets and we blog tweet and social media all day long with great joy and smiles and life is good, right?

Take a look at the other side we are not told about….

@Tesla adds radar to the Autopilot…

There are so many reasons to change this feature after the fatal car accident, but the reality is that there are still many variables at play on many of the roads today. My biggest question around these self drive cars is around the response times during an emergency. Sure a car can do a lot with electronics, but how will it handle excess loads of work and data as it drives? I think adding in a radar or maybe even a secondary measure helps to cover the bases.

Even with all this said, I must take my hat off to Tesla for developing cars with this auto pilot feature, it takes a lot of work and challenges to come up with something like then and even more to then put it into the commercial market. They have handled it very well and spend a lot of time making sure that they fix and adjust things if there are problems.

@Amazon pop-up stores a good idea or not?

When they first announced the pop-up stores, I thought it was going to be this massive warehouse that would double as a distribution center with a way for you to get all the many products they offer in a normal store. The reality is very different to what I thought and it has been done in a great way I think. The stores will only be having the technology devices which with introduce you to the many ways you can get to all those other products which you will still do on their normal website.

This will make Wallmart sigh in relief, but it does beg the big question, are Amazon going to use this as an opportunity to start opening their doors to normal brick and mortar stores in the future that do offer all their products? with a 1 hour delivery service in major American hubs there is no reason why it is not feasible to have their entire store ready for use as a normal brick and mortar store.

There are so many other ways of looking at this. What do you think?

Here is another way of looking at this as well.
