Bill Cosby on more men being fathers in their homes. We need this message here in South Africa.

I believe that here in South Africa we are facing an even bigger issue around this. here are so many fatherless households in our country because there are men running around who do not have the gusts to actually stick around and be a father. They often times use the excuse of having to be at work, but the truth is they would rather just run away from their responsibility. Because we are raising a nation of child headed house holds, there are no father figure models in these homes and younger men are growing up without an idea of what it is to be a real father in them. This is why we have problems with our youth growing up in rebellion and drugs or in gangs. they are looking for fathers and when the do not find this at home they will accept the next closest thing, enter the gang or drugs environment. Ever notice how easy it is to get a bad habit and how hard it is to break that bad habit, however, it is hard to create a good habit but it is really easy to break a good habit? Habits don’t just go away, they need to be fed with new stuff or they simply return. If you go to the Bible there is a scripture which says that if a person casts out a demon and cleans their house (referring to their inner spirit), that demon will go away for a season and find 7 other uglier and nastier demons than itself and return back to the place where it used to reside. If that demon and his friends come back and find a clean empty house, they will invade and take over, however if that person has filled that void with something else, there will be no room for those demons to move in.

with habits it is the same thing. We need to fill the void of a bad habit with a good habit and we cannot let up on that habit ever, because if we do that bad habit will return with a vengeance and worse than before.

Knideness of a stranger teaches us to love our neighbours…

Sometimes there is a good story on the news that teaches us all that people are still kind and generous. This amazing story teaches us all that kindness and generosity do not have to be seen or even known, but that it is needed. Sometimes, we give and do kind deeds to get claim and fame, but the truth is that just helping a fellow human being should be reward enough without any expectation of reward or response. I believe that we are starting to see this in our community. Love your neighbour as yourself was the word from Jesus in Matthew 22. It is simple and it is not hard, but we often can be too busy doing our own thing to notice that the people living right next to us may be our next greatest friend or may be in serious trouble, but because we are always looking at our own lives we tend to over look them. Community is about loving your neighbour, speaking to them and showing them kindness, whether they respond of not. A simple act of kindness in this story has left an eternal footprint on this family and they do not even know who that person is. That is true kindness.
